Two subsidiaries of SNC-Lavalin Inc. of Montreal have signed a lump sum turnkey contract with Compania Minera Disputada de Las Condes SA of Santiago, Chile, for a US$23 million sulphuric acid plant.
The contract, won by Fenco Engineers of Toronto and SNC-Lavalin Chile SA, comprises engineering, procurement, construction and project management. The plant, which will recover sulphur dioxide emissions to produce the sulphuric acid, will be built at Chagres, Chile, for an expanded copper smelter. At full capacity, the plant will produce 1,125 tonnes per day of pure sulphuric acid. Plant startup is scheduled for early 1994.
