TSX Venture Exchange – September 19-25

Despite a modest lift in metal prices, investors continued their sell-off of junior explorers over the Sept. 19-25 trading session, depressing the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index by almost 6%. The index closed down 151.76 points at 2,425.76 on average daily trading volumes of 49.6 million shares over the week.

The market remained on a bearish course with just 22 junior miners reaching new 52-week highs while 60 companies dropped to yearly lows on the session.

Goldmarca soared 61.5%, closing up 32 at 84 per share on volume of 34.8 million, following drill results from its Condor gold project in southern Ecuador. Drilling intersected 284 metres grading 2.8 grams gold per tonne, including a 98-metre interval of 6.1 grams gold, 34.7 grams silver and 1.8% zinc, in an epithermal breccia zone within the Los Cuyes sector of the property.

Bumped to second spot, Plexmar Resources shed 16% over the week, closing down 13 at 67 per share on trading volume of 28.5 million. Surface sampling at its Escondida project in southern Ecuador recently delivered some high-grade gold values from bedrock and boulder sampling.

On volume of almost 14.3 million shares, Searchgold Resources inched up a penny to close at 17.5 over the session. The company is planning a drill program at its Mandiana project in Guinea, West Africa, where a large gold anomaly was recently announced.

With drill results looming from its El Corazon gold project in northern Ecuador, shares of Skeena Resources rallied almost 20% on strong trading volume of 11.6 million to close up 14 at 84 apiece.

Nortec Ventures traded 6.5 million shares over the session, edging up a half-penny to 35 per share. The company recently began an airborne survey at its Koillismaa-Naranka nickel-copper-platinum group metals project in northeastern Finland and is also drilling its Ganarin epithermal gold-silver project in southern Ecuador.

Also garnering market interest on a southern Ecuadorian gold project, Lateegra Gold soared 53% to close at $1.10 per share on volume of over 5.1 million. Crews have been mobilized to its El Condor project — located within 3 km of Aurelian Resources’ major gold discovery at Fruta del Norte.

Madison Minerals slipped 19 over the week to close at 94 per share on volume of 5.1 million. Drilling by joint-venture partner Buffalo Gold on the Mount Kare project in Papua New Guinea continues to return wide intervals of high-grade gold mineralization. Additionally, drilling at its Lewis project in north-central Nevada cut a 32-metre interval of 17.5 grams gold per tonne.

Shares of Acero-Martin Exploration plummeted 29%, closing at 78 apiece with over 4.2 million shares changing hands. An initial resource estimate of 29.1 million indicated tonnes of 0.4% copper and 0.5 gram gold for its Pinaya project in southern Peru fell short of investor expectations.
