TSX VENTURE EXCHANGE -November 1-5

The S&P-TSX Venture edged over the 2,000-point threshold in the Nov. 1-5 trading week, climbing 58.6 points to end at 2,008.92. Volume remained quite high, averaging 172.1 million shares traded daily.

There were far more bulls than bears, with 138 Venture-listed companies hitting new 52-week highs while only 48 hit new lows.

Cayden Resources saw the biggest value gain, climbing $2.25 to $10.75 on an average of 16,000 shares traded daily. The company’s share price has climbed sharply from $2.36 in late September when Vistech Capital changed its name to Cayden Resources and completed its qualifying transaction of acquiring a 100% interest in the Wildcat copper-gold property in central British Columbia.

Bear Creek Mining had another strong week, up 54¢ to $8.40. The company completed a $129-million financing, issuing 23 million shares at $6.40 apiece including an overallotment of $17 million. As recently as August, its shares were trading at $3.60, but have climbed substantially as it advances the Santa Ana silver project in Peru. An October feasibility study estimated the project hosts reserves of 63.2 million oz. silver.

Trelawney Mining and Exploration rose on strong volumes despite not releasing any news. The company climbed 54¢ to $2.10 apiece on roughly 14 million shares traded. Trelawney continues to advance its flagship Chester gold project in northern Ontario. Its most recent intercepts include 139 metres grading 1.62 grams gold per tonne, 137 metres of 0.79 gram gold and 120 metres averaging 0.92 gram gold.

Torch River Resources saw by far the most volume, with 29.3 million shares traded as the company’s share price climbed 4¢ to 9.5¢. The company released sample results from its 13-sq.-km Mount Copeland project near Revelstoke, B.C., that showed elevated levels of rare earth elements (REE) as well as molybdenum, yttrium, zirconium and niobium. Results came from 34 chip samples and 72 soil samples included elevated levels of cerium, lanthanum and neodymium.

Also riding high on REEs, Pancontinental Uranium’s share price doubled on news its joint-venture partner Crossland Uranium Mines had identified heavy minerals containing REEs on their Charley Creek project in Australia’s Northern Territory. A heavy mineral concentrate from a sample of stream-channel alluvium returned 39% total rare-earth oxide, including high levels of gadolinium, terbium and dysprosium. Pancontinental jumped 41¢ or 216% to 60¢ the day the news was released before ending at 38¢ on a total of 14.3 million shares traded.

Polar Star Mining, meanwhile, saw its stock price drop $1.53 to $2.40 as the company released drill results from its Montezuma copper project in Chile. Hole 38 returned 44 metres grading 0.55% copper, 0.17 gram gold and 3.4 grams silver per tonne from 226 metres depth.
