TSX VENTURE EXCHANGE MARCH 9-15

A week of small gains and losses left the S&P/TSX Venture composite index essentially unchanged at the end of the March 9-15 trading period, closing down 0.42 point at 1561.51. Daily trading volumes remained strong, averaging 122 million.

The board’s neutrality even extended into the bears-versus-bulls competition, as an equal number of juniors — 58 — reached new 52-week share price highs and fell to new lows.

The volume leader and one of the biggest gainers for the week was Eagle Hill Exploration, which announced results from its first drill hole at the Windfall Lake project in Quebec. Hole 196 cut 33 metres grading 19.61 grams gold per tonne from 254 metres depth. The company also assayed untested core left behind by previous owner Noront Resources, which returned such intercepts as 1 metre of 64 grams gold and 21.4 metres of 5.95 grams gold. Eagle Hill moved 63 million shares — more than its outstanding count — to almost triple its share price, adding 31.5¢ to reach 46¢.

The White Gold discovery spawned a new name for the surrounding region in the Yukon and now it has spawned a $139.2-million takeover bid from Kinross Gold. Underworld Resources saw its share price jump 64¢ or 33% in a day to reach a new all-time high of $2.57 on news of a merger deal with Kinross that, if approved, will see the major exchange each Underworld share for 0.141 of a Kinross share plus 1¢ in cash. Underworld’s White Gold project, in what is now known as the White Gold district in the central Yukon, is home to a 1-million-indicated-oz., open-pit-table gold deposit that remains open and prospective in all directions.

Results from another exciting gold discovery, this one in Indonesia, also lifted East Asia Minerals’ share price to a new all-time high. The Miwah gold project in Aceh province seems to return gold in every drill core; the latest results include 157 metres grading 1.36 grams gold and 81 metres of 4.1 grams gold. East Asia gained 38¢ in a day to reach $5.17.

A resource estimate for the Titan vanadium project in Ontario lifted Prophecy Resource’s share price 8¢ to 66¢. Titan is now home to 49 million inferred tonnes grading 0.24% vanadium, 14.82% titanium dioxide and 48.09% iron oxide. Vanadium is a contender for use in electric car batteries and currently sells for roughly US$13 per lb.

Riding results from the end of the previous week Eurasian Minerals gained a healthy 23¢ over the period to reach $2.03. The company is exploring its Grand Bois project in Haiti, where drills recently returned 12 metres grading 20.24 grams gold and 30.4 metres of 6.76 grams gold, and its Akarca project in Turkey, where drills hit 18 metres of 1.14 grams gold and 7.3 metres of 3.22 grams gold.

Canadian Orebodies enjoyed a spot on the most-active list as it released encouraging grab sample results from its lithium and rare metals properties near Kirkland Lake and Thunder Bay, Ont.
