Ongoing exploration at the Trout Lake copper-zinc mine near Flin Flon, Man., continues to intersect polymetallic mineralization below the 560-metre level, the lowest level in the mine.
Testing the down-plunge extensions of the North zone’s No. 7 lens, operator Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting (TSE) intersected a 105.9-metre interval grading 11.6% zinc, 2.2% copper, 1.2 grams gold per tonne and 17.8 grams silver at a depth of 714 metres. Hole T-672 was drilled from the560-metre level.
Follow-up drilling on the HIO zone, discovered last year, confirmed previous encouraging results. Lens No. 3, considered to have the best tonnage potential of the zone’s three lenses, returned a true width of 5.7 metres grading 0.7% zinc, 7.76% copper, 3 grams gold and 3.8 grams silver.
Trout Lake is a joint venture among Hudson Bay (44%), Granges (TSE) (29%) and Manitoba Mineral Resources (27%).
The partners, with a 1991 budget of over $3 million for exploration at Trout Lake, also plan to test the hangingwall of the producing North and South zones and the shallow, up-plunge extension of the Middle zone.
The mine is estimated to contain proven and probable reserves of 7 million tonnes grading 5.8% zinc, 1.9% copper, 1.4 grams gold and 12 grams silver. Operating at a rate of 2,300 tonnes per day, Trout Lake is expected to provide another eight years of production.
