Drilling on four geophysical targets at the Red Lake Extension property of Tri Origin Exploration (TOE-V) has intersected sulphide-mineralized and altered Red Lake volcanic rocks.
Three holes on the property all intersected altered mafic volcanic rocks and felsic intrusive rocks. There were no significant gold values associated with them. A fourth hole did not intersect any features that might have explained the geophysical anomaly targeted by the drilling.
A separate 47-hole overburden drilling program sampled basal till immediately overlying the bedrock, in areas where previous geophysical surveys had found magnetic or chargeability anomalies. Four out of the eight areas sampled in the overburden program returned till samples with gold grades of 8 to 24 parts per billion (0.008 to 0.024 grams per tonne). Typical background values for tills in the area is around 3 parts per billion.
The results suggest glacial smearing of gold from buried bedrock gold occurrences, and Tri Origin plans further sampling and drilling.
The property, an 88-sq.-km block in Willans Twp., is about 10 km southeast of Goldcorp’s (G-T) Red Lake mine, along the southeast-trending structural zone that includes the Red Lake, Campbell, and Cochenour mines.
