Gold closed up $3.95 in the afternoon in London at US$393.60 and gold stock rose in response.
Wheaton River led the way in volume trading 15.1 million shares, to close up 6 at $3.96.
Iamgold traded second among the mining stock, with a volume of 4.18 million shares. It closed up 8 at $7.38.
Asia Pacific Resources traded 4 million shares. The stock price rose 3, or 37%, to close at 13, on no news.
Bema Gold, Thistle Mining, Barrick Gold and Kinross Gold all traded between 3 and 4 million shares and closed up 1 to 31
Orezone Resources rose 16.5%, or 18, to close at $1.27 on a volume of 2.6 million shares. They reported impressive drill results from their Essakan gold property in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Nuinsco rose 12%, or 3, to close at 28 on a volume of 55,000 shares. They reported good grades at minable widths from a 21-hole, 4,000-metre, drill program focused on the Mel nickel deposit, some 25 km north of Thompson, Manitoba.
