Canada’s junior exchange ended the week modestly higher on very light volume.The S&P-TSX Venture Exchange composite index ended the day up 0.39 of a point and closed at 1,240.77.
ECU Silver was the most actively traded junior explorer, ending the session flat at 8.5 on over 1.3 million shares traded. Stock in the company resumed trading on Aug. 8, after a cease trading order was issued by the exchange. ECU’subsidiaries ownership of the mining properties in the Velardena area of Mexico have been challenged by the original vendors. ECU cites these reaons for a production shortfall with only 2,606 tonnes milled between March 24th and May 4th instead of the 5,000 tonnes planned. The average grades for that period were 6.15 grams gold and 299 grams silver with recoveries of 75% for gold and 38% for silver.
Mag Silver added 5 after releasing drill results from its wholly-owned Juanicipio silver project in Mexico. The results include a 2 metre section with only 22% core recovery yielding 10.9 grams gold and 200 grams silver from 596 metres downhole. The junior closed at $1.25 on 73,000 shares traded.
Bishop Resources ended the day up 5 to 24 on over 1 million shares traded. Stock in the junior has traded heavily since it staked ground adjoining its Gordon Lake gold property in the Northwest Territories. The newly acquired project host 12 gold-bearing zones, which have been drill tested by some 79 holes. The best results from the historic drilling include 58 grams gold per tonne over 1.3 metres and 96.7 grams gold over 0.8 metre.
