Total Energold (TSE) exploration manager Steve Parry says he is encouraged by results of nine holes drilled on a Joutel, Que., gold property held under option from Northway Explorations (TSE) and T&H Resources (TSE). Drilled at 100-metre centres along a 1.5-km section of a regional volcanic sedimentary contact known as the A horizon, the holes returned consistent gold values from 2-5.6 grams gold per tonne over core lengths of 3.2-8.4 metres.
The best intersections returned so far were in holes 143 and 151 which cut 4.9 grams over 5.7 metres and 5.6 grams over 7.4 metres respectively. They are located side by side within a zone that dips vertically and occurs 20 metres south of the volcanic-sediment contact within the volanics.
Operator Total Energold can earn a 60% stake in the Noyon Twp. property which is owned jointly by Northway with 70% and T&H with 30%. Morrison Minerals (TSE) has the right to back in for 25% of Total Energold’s interest.
While future drilling would have to return slightly better values for the new zone to begin to look economic, Parry says he is intrigued by the size of the new mineralized zone. The 64 holes drilled around the property so far have indicated the existence of a number of zones, but none with the potential size of the A zone, he said. The top of the horizon is just seven metres from surface and is covered by a 4-9 metre layer of overburden.
As three kilometres of the A horizon remain to be tested, T&H President John Pollock is also excited about the potential outcome of future drilling on the property. “If you read between the lines, this is a pretty significant discovery,” he said.
Like Parry, Pollock is encouraged by the proximity (700 metres) of A horizon to the Noyon project’s RJ zone which has already yielded 16.5 grams over 3.6 metres, and to the Vezza Twp. gold discovery of North American Rare Metals (ME), Dundee-Palliser Resources (TSE) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (TSE).
With two rigs on site, Total Energold will attempt to determine whether it is working with a consistently large mineralized system, while conducting definition drilling around holes 143 and 151. Total Energold must spend $2 million by 1994 to exercise its project option.
