Laboratory-scale testing of a heavy-mineral bulk concentrate from the Natashquan deposit in Quebec has been completed, reports Tiomin Resources (TSE).
Gravity, magnetic, and electrostatic separation techniques were used to produce individual mineral concentrates of magnetite (iron), ilmenite and rutile (titanium), zircon and garnet.
Further testing on small samples of the bulk concentrate indicates that the minerals have grain sizes within commercial norms.
The next stage in the evaluation of the deposit will be to design a flowsheet for pilot plant production at the Centre for Mineral Research in Quebec City. The heavy minerals sand deposit has preliminary reserves of 1.3 billion tonnes grading 6% heavy minerals, which should suffice for 50 to 100 years of mining.
