An attempt by Noranda (TSE) to sue the federal government over losses suffered during the collapse of the international tin cartel in 1985 has been struck down by the Supreme Court of Canada. Noranda took the case to court on behalf of its subsidiary, Rudolf Wolff & Co. Ltd. of London, which suffered a loss when the tin market collapsed. Canada was one of 22 nation members making up the tin council which tried to control the world price of the metal. The council bought tin from Wolff.
