Scott Lake project partners Thunderwood Resources (TSE) and Greenstone Resources (TSE) have increased the extent of copper-zinc mineralization at the property near Chibougamau, Que.
Results from a 28,000-ft., 12-hole program completed in July indicate that the sulphide zone is 250-350 ft. thick, and has a strike length of 1,200 ft. and a vertical extent of about 2,000 ft. Discovered in February, the new zone lies about one mile west of the Scott Lake zinc deposit.
Thunderwood says base metal content within the discovery zone is increasing to the east. Hole SL-91-90, the most easterly hole drilled to date, intersected a 1,154 ft. quartz-eye rhyolite interval averaging 0.24% copper, 0.46% zinc and 0.13 oz. silver per ton, including a 215 ft. interval grading 0.625 copper, 1.05% zinc and 0.37 oz. silver from 2166-2382 ft. The partners have also discovered a new copper-rich horizon, several hundred feet north of the main sulphide zone. The copper mineralization, which remains open at depth and along strike, assayed 2.94% copper, 0.22% zinc and 0.56 oz. silver over 15.4 ft.
Results released during the first week of September launched Thunderwood into the TSE’s most active mines list: 118,888 shares changed hands for a gain of 2 cents to 80 cents.
The assays included a 15-ft. interval of banded, pyritic massive sulphides grading 0.83% copper and 5.27% zinc at a depth of 3,291 ft. in hole SL-91-85AW. The interval, which showed metal zoning, correlates with a similar section encountered in hole SL-91-85A, 150 ft. away. In the same hole, but 290 ft. higher, the partners intersected an intermediate-felsic volcanic contact which graded 0.28% copper and 2.34% zinc over 7.7 ft. The upper mineralized horizon also correlates with a sulphide interval encountered previously.
Although grades to date are too low to be considered economic at such great depth, Thunderwood says the recent results have “enhanced the potential for finding a significant base metal deposit on the property.”
