“Prospectors today’s mine finders” is the theme for the Northwestern Ontario Mines and Minerals Symposium in Thunder Bay on April 9-10. “Prospectors are the key to the future of our mining industry,” said Mines Minister Gilles Pouliot. “All mines have a limited amount of ore and run out sooner or later. Without prospecting there wouldn’t be new mines and jobs.”
Last year’s symposium drew more than 400 delegates. It attracts mining people from across the north, other provinces as well as the U.S. Participants have a chance to meet with others in the industry, attend talks by government and industry experts and visit displays.
Organizers are expecting more than 40 displays ranging from the area’s mining history to promising exploration properties in Moss Twp. Sixteen speakers will cover topics such as district updates on exploration and mining activities, environmental issues and financing exploration.
The sessions open at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at the Airlane Motor Hotel in Thunder Bay.
