Thermo Fisher to unveil new analyzers at Indaba

Thermo Fisher Scientific (tmo-n) will demonstrate its newest Niton handheld XRF analyzers at Mining Indaba 2011 on Feb. 7-10 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in South Africa.
The analyzers can quickly determine the elemental composition of sample data at all stages of the exploration, mining and refining processes, the company said in a press release.
The new models include the Thermo Scientific Niton XL2 GOLDD and the enhanced Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t GOLDD+.
GOLDD (geometrically optimized large area drift detector) technology delivers faster measurement times and lower detection limits, as much as 10-times faster than conventional Si-PIN detectors and up to three-times more precise than conventional smaller silicon drift detectors (SDD), the company said. This technology also allows light element analysis of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus and sulphur without helium purge or vacuum assist.
 “More than 2,500 of our Niton XRF analyzers are already deployed in the global mining industry,” said Bob Wopperer, the company’s director of marketing and business development, in a statement. The new models will help mining companies to reduce laboratory costs and improve efficiency, he said.
“The Niton XL2 GOLDD is the ideal instrument for grade control, concentrator operations and near-mine exploration, while the Niton XL3t GOLDD+ is the analyzer of choice for advanced exploration and is a boon to the energy and industrial minerals markets. With the Niton XL3t GOLDD+, you get lab-quality analysis in the field, logging trailer or core room,” Wopperer said
