The Ralph Roberts Center for Research in Economic Geology has been established in Reno, Nev. Its mandate will be to investigate the geology, geochemistry and genesis of Carlin-type gold deposits.
Roberts, while working as a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, outlined the geologic framework of north-central Nevada. His research contributed to the discovery of the Carlin gold mine by John Livermore, then of Newmont Mining.
The Ralph Roberts Center is the result of joint efforts by industry and the University of Nevada’s McKay School of Mines, in Reno.
