The Madagan region of Russia sent more than 1.5 tonnes of gold to refineries in the first half of 1996, reports Interfax News Agency. The region is the second-largest producer of the yellow metal in the country, after Yakutia.
Mining companies from Yakutia turned out 6.2 tonnes of the metal in the first half of 1996, 11.6% below the 6-month target and down 14.1% from the same period last year, when the republic produced 7.3 tonnes.
