THE DIAMOND PAGE — More drilling possible at Arkansas park

Junior Texas Star Resources (VSE) should soon have federal approval to proceed with a diamond exploration project in the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.

Pending the approval, Texas Star and its partner, the state of Arkansas, will begin a 12-hole diamond drill program to test an area of the park not previously explored. In addition, 14 small trenches will be dug to provide a 3,400-cu.-yd. bulk sample to test for grade.

Diamonds were first discovered in 1906 in what is now parkland. The deposit was mined commercially until 1929, and has since become a tourist attraction. Only sub-economic quantities of diamonds were found during exploration programs in the 1980s, and, in 1992, drilling outlined close to 78 million tons of lamproitic material.
