Tetra Tech Acquires Wardrop

Pasadena, Calif.-based consultants Tetra Tech (TTEK-Q) have acquired Canadian consultancy firm Wardrop Engineering.

The move, which is part of Tetra’s global expansion, adds 13 Canadian offices to the company’s stable, as well as one in the United Kingdom and one in India.

Wardrop, which had revenue of US$120 million in 2008, is expected to contribute US$75 million in net revenue and 2¢ of diluted earnings per share for the remainder of 2009 to Tetra Tech.

Wardrop will join Tetra Tech’s environmental consulting services division.

In a statement, Dan Batrack, chairman and CEO of Tetra Tech, pointed out that the acquisition doubles the company’s nuclear energy and electrical transmission consultancy services.

“Together with more than 10,000 employees globally, we are now better positioned to serve multinational clients,” Batrack said. “This geographic expansion into Canada also opens a new growth market for Tetra Tech’s water capabilities.”

Wardrop, which has 1,200 employees, has made Maclean’s magazine’s 100 Top Employers list eight years in a row.
