Mine builders AMEC Americas and Fluor Canada have signed a letter of intent with Terrane Metals (TRX-V) to construct key components for the company’s Mt. Milligan copper-gold project in northwestern B.C.
Terrane has chosen AMEC’s and Fluor’s joint venture called British Columbia Mining Joint Venture (BCMJV) to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services to build a 60,000 tonne-per-day copper flotation process plant, a tailings storage and plant ancillary facilities. BCMJV will also build a 92-km power transmission line and a 600-person camp.
“Mt. Milligan’s six million shovel-ready ounces and 22-year reserve base will make it one of Canada’s largest new mines,” Robert Pease, president and CEO of Terrane, stated in a press release. “With the selection of the BCMJV as our EPCM contractor, we have secured the services of an outstanding British Columbia-based engineering design and construction management team.”
Bob Stanlake, president of AMEC’s Mining & Metals business, praised the partnership with Fluor.
“I am delighted that our track record of successful partnership with Fluor has led to this award,” Stanlake outlined in a press release.
The Mt. Milligan project would likely create 400 permanent jobs and long-term economic benefits to the region.
Mt. Milligan is expected to cost $915 million.
