Surface sampling by Teck (TSE) has identified a massive sulphide horizon on the Tache Lake property just outside the town of Chibougamau, Que.
Labelled the East zone, the new horizon has been exposed by surface stripping for more than 300 metres and ranges from 0.5 to five metres in width. Chip and grab samples from 18 locations along the entire length assayed up to 17% zinc and 1 oz. gold per ton, says partner Greenstone Resources (TSE).
Teck can earn a 60% interest in the Tache Lake property by spending $1.5 million over three years and making certain payments to Bitech (ASE). Greenstone would retain a 40% interest in the property and Bitech would retain a 10% net profit interest.
Found within pyroclastics and tuffaceous felsic volcanics, the intensely carbonitized East zone is associated with large area of sodium depletion. Greenstone says the zinc-gold anomaly at the East zone is similar to that of the “Main zone,” a volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit hosting probable reserves of 620,000 tons grading 4.07% zinc and 0.07 oz. gold to a depth of 400 ft. Another one million tons are contained within the possible category. Teck plans to test the east zone with drilling and downhole pulse electromagnetics later this year.
