Teck exploring Snow Lake camp

The mineral potential of some 70,000 hectares in the Snow Lake region of Manitoba will be examined by Teck (TSE) under a joint venture agreement with partners, TSA Explorations (VSE) and Samarkand Resources (VSE).

The Snowlake property is reported to be underlain by a 50-km- long belt of felsic volcanic rocks hosting several copper-zinc massive sulphide discoveries. The land package is about 30 miles south of Snow Lake.

A $630,000 exploration program is expected to start shortly, beginning with an airborne survey. After ground geophysical follow-up, the partners plan a work program consisting of 2,000-3,000 metres of diamond drilling. The drillin g is expected to be completed by mid- April.

Teck will have a 45% interest in the joint venture with TSA holding 30% and Samarkand the remainder.

In a separate joint venture with TSA, Teck is expecting to resume surface exploration of the Grizzly Lake zinc-lead prospect, 90 km east of Quesnel, B.C.

Last fall Teck started a surface work program to test a number of lead-zinc showings on the property, which can be reached by road, and is reported to have noted some similarities to those of Mississippi Valley-type deposits such as Pine Point and Polaris in the Northwest Territories.

If results continue to be favorable, a drilling program will be undertaken this year. Teck can earn a 52% interest in the project with TSA holding the remainder.
