Toronto-listed Teck earned $29 million (net), up from $26 million a year earlier. Revenues also rose, to $492 million from $378 million.
The improvement is attributed to increased coal production and a strong performance from gold mining operations.
The major cranked out 374,900 oz. of the yellow metal in 1993, compared with 379,800 oz. in 1992. Production costs were US$186 per oz. at the Williams mine and US$142 per oz. at the neighboring David Bell operation. Both are in Ontario’s Hemlo camp.
