Teck axes 125 at Quintette

A backlog of coal inventories at the port in Prince Rupert, B.C., has forced Teck (TEK-T) to lay off 125 employees of the province’s Quintette mine.

In addition to reducing the mine’s workforce to 500, Teck has lowered its production rates.

The company holds a 45% interest in Quintette, with the remainder held by Japanese interests.
