Tan Range active in Tanzania

Calgary-based Tan Range Exploration (ASE) is acquiring several exploration concessions in Tanzania through its subsidiary, Tan Can Mining.

To date, the company has received approval for diamond concessions covering 104 sq. km, gold concessions covering 207 sq. km and 20 claims containing a heavy mineral sands deposit on the Indian Ocean. Applications for additional ground are outstanding.

Since the first diamond discovery in 1911, more than 300 kimberlite pipes — about 20% of which are diamondiferous — have been found in Tanzania. The bulk of production has come from the 50-year-old, government-controlled Williamson diamond mine near Shinyanga. Kimberlite pipes are known to occur on Tan Range’s concessions near the mine.
