Baker Hughes of Houston, Tex., is a leading supplier of products and services to mining and oil and gas industries.
While mining equipment contributed 10% of $2.3 billion in net sales reported by Baker Hughes last year, the division is not regarded as a core business area by Baker and it will be transferred to Tamrock when the deal is closed, June 30.
Regarded as a major producer of underground and surface drilling equipment, Tamrock made a foray into the loading business last year when it acquired Finnish loader manufacturer Ara Oy.
Tamrock, which manufactures drilling equipment from operations around the world, including Sudbury, Ont., reported net sales last year of $300 million. Tamrock also has a sales office in Vancouver.
After the integration of Baker Hughes’ mining equipment group into Tamrock’s current structure, the latter company will be a clear leader in both loader and drill manufacturing, Tampella said.
