Tamavack, Maple Leaf: good results

Follow-up drilling at the Fountain Lake gold property of International Maple Leaf Resource Corp. and Tamavack Resources west of Thunder Bay, Ont., has yielded some more impressive assay values.

Partial results are available from the 7-hole drill program including 15 ft of 0.99 oz gold (416-431 ft) in hole No tml-88-19. Within that intercept was a 5-ft section grading 2.8 oz while a separate zone at 459 ft returned 4 ft averaging 0.22 oz.

The gold zone was intersected at the same level but 200 ft along strike from hole No tml-87-4 which was drilled before Christmas and averaged 1.6 oz over 4.9 ft. The latest results are particularly significant because of the strike extension and the fact multiple zoning is indicated.

Managing the program for the joint venture is Prime Explorations of Vancouver, a subsidiary of Murray Pezim’s Prime Capital. The joint venture raised $200,000 in flow- through funds to mount the recent program and “the next phase will be substantially higher,” says Prime Explorations President Chet Idziszek. A total of 3,463 ft of drilling has been completed this year.

Assays are still pending for holes Nos 20 and 21 and partial results on several others, he notes. Once these are received and evaluated the joint venture will make a decision on the next phase of exploration. One thing is certain, however. The program will involve definition drilling around the discovery mineralization which will be followed along strike to the south and west.

Multiple zoning has also apparently been noted on Inco’s property to the northeast and the company is rumored to have moved a drill to the Tamavack/Maple Leaf boundary. There is swampy ground in the area, particularly along the boundary with Tandem and Storimin which are involved in a major underground exploration program. As a result, winter is the best time to drill.

The zone is associated with a large north-northeast and southwest trending fault zone which contains quartz veining in shear zones “that can be fairly wide,” he confirms. Often there are 4-5 quartz veins in a drill hole which makes it difficult to match them up, he adds. So close-spaced drilling will be required.
