Survey highlights Dryden area

Results from an airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey in the Stormy Lake-Dryden area indicate “many interesting targets for prospectors and industry to follow up,” according to Ontario’s Northern Development and Mines Minister, Dan Newman.

The survey is part of Operation Treasure Hunt, a $29-million initiative designed to identify mineral exploration targets in the province.

Almost 34,000 line km were flown by airplanes using equipment designed to record the magnetic signatures of the rocks below.

These signatures provide prospectors and geologists with insight about the types of rock buried beneath the glacial deposits and zones in the rock that may contain concentrations of important economic metals. The Ontario Geological Survey will publish the results as hard-copy maps and CD-ROMs.
