SUPPLIERS’ NOTES (August 02, 1991)

Weatherhaven Resources, manufacturers of air-transportable camp installations and shelters, has entered into an agency agreement with Carson Pratt Services of Papua New Guinea to provide local sales and servicing for the portable building systems. Weatherhaven says its shelters are suited to the environment of Papua New Guinea because they resist rot and mildew, protect occupants from ultra-violet radiation and reduce solar heat gain. Humidity is controlled within a Weatherhaven shelter through its inherent systems of insulation, ventilation and portable air conditioners/dehumidifiers.

Getman recently delivered the first of five Getman scalers for loose control of backs and ribs at the Pasminco mine in Broken Hill, N.S.W., Australia. The scalers are the S-324N model with a maximum working height of 7.3 metres (24 ft.) and up to 6.1 metres (20 ft.) of horizontal coverage from a single position. The need for outriggers is eliminated because the wide front axle is 3.4 metres (or 11 ft.). Pasminco ordered the optional, narrow (2.7-metre-wide) axle. This narrow option requires an automatic lockout on the rear-axle oscillation to maintain stability during the scaling operation. The Broken Hill machines were also supplied with fully enclosed cabs with air conditioning, sliding rear window and front windshield wiper and washer.

Fluor Daniel Wright recently completed the Escondida copper project in Chile. Darryl Marshall, vice-president of sales, notes that “we completed this project substantially ahead of schedule and under budget.” Escondida is designed to process 35,000 tons of copper ore per day. Fluor Daniel Wright’s input included installation of an in-pit crushing and conveying system, copper concentrate processing facility, molybdenum plant, mine infrastructure and port facilities. The latter, on the Chilean coast, is 160 km away from the mine and processing plant. The project came in three months ahead of schedule.
