Suppliers’ Notes (October 03, 1988)

Wajax Industries of Etobicoke, Ont., has been made the exclusive Canadian distributor for a product line of underground mine communication equipment designed and manufactured by Stolar Inc. of Denver, Colo. The equipment works on the principle of electromagnetic wave propogation technology and consists of wireless underground radio equipment for voice and/or data communication, remote control and wireless monitoring. Boliden Allis of Sweden has taken over the Canadian group Stephens-Adamson. Accordingly, Boliden, a member of the Trelleborg Group, has acquired Stephens-Adamson for close to $20 million (c). Stephens- Adamson manufactures machinery and equipment for the bulk handling of materials such as minerals, coal and cement. Intergraph Corp. of Huntsville, Ala., has formed an electronic design automation division. The division will develop, sell and support Intergraph’s full suite of electronics CAE/CAD/CAM offerings, including products for printed circuit board, hybrid and application-specific integrated circuit design. Intergraph develops and manufactures interactive computer graphics systems. Wholly owned subsidiary Intergraph Systems is based in Mississauga, Ont. An 8-page brochure entitled Helping to Deliver the Rewards of Industrial Automation is available from Westinghouse Automation Technology of Richmond Hill, Ont. The publication outlines the features of the company’s microprocessor- based automation, process and combustion control products, systems, service and support. Also outlined are combustion-control products and Westinghouse’s voice data entry systems. A book entitled Microcomputer Programs for Heap Leach Operations has been written by MATCHES of Edmond, Okla. The book aims to assist the operating engineer with his day-to-day duties at a heap leach operation. Mentioned are programs which are intended to help the engineer estimate operating parameters, simplify calculating reagent additions and evaluate the economic feasibility of the project. Programs include: pump design; pipe sizing; water balance; metal removal from solution; metal smelting; etc. A program disk is included with the book. Total cost is $110 (us). Wright Engineering of Vancouver, B.C., is being bought out by Fluor Daniel Canada, thereby allowing the two companies to combine resources. Terms of the agreement haven’t been disclosed, but the combination should substantially expand Wright’s international focus in the mining and metals engineering market. Wright is involved in process and design engineering for mining and materials-handling projects.
