An affiliate of Montreal-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin is taking the government of Pakistan to court for cancelling a contract to develop a power station in the country.
SNC-Lavalin committed to the project in March 1997, just after the current government was installed. But in June of this year, government authorities cancelled the contract, while, at the same time, acknowledging that the decision was a violation of its agreement with SNC-Lavalin. The company is seeking to recoup its investment there.
