SUPPLIERS NEWS ROUNDUP — Olympic Dam plants up and running

A new refinery and smelter are now on-stream at the Olympic Dam copper-uranium operation in Australia.

Both plants were built by Kvaerner Metals for a total cost of $320 million as part of a larger, $2.8-billion expansion project at the mine. With the addition of these facilities, refined copper production is expected to increase to 200,000 tonnes per year from 85,000 tonnes.
