In an attempt to impress on lawmakers the importance of mining in the midwestern U.S., two mining associations recently gave a group of congressional legislators a tour of the region’s network of suppliers.
Sponsored by the National Mining Association and the Gold Institute, the tour included stops at mines in Michigan and Colorado, as well as a visit to the Wisconsin headquarters of P&H Mining Equipment.
In Wisconsin alone, an estimated 10,000 people are employed by 130 companies that service the mining industry.
The tour was designed to raise awareness among legislators, who are currently reviewing proposed amendments to the Mining Act.
