Stockholm-based mining equipment supplier Atlas Copco, has announced the opening of a new factory in North Bay, Ont.
The facility, which will produce exploration products and rock reinforcements, will create 130 jobs.
The production plant, designed to reduce environmental impact, will employ state-of-the-art automated manufacturing equipment.
“This is a significant investment that will lead to better service for our customers in North America, as all the plants of the division have been running at full capacity,” said Bjorn Rosengren, business area president for Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Technique.
The plant will also have a production line for Swellex rock bolts.
Operations from Atlas Copco’s geotechnical drilling and exploration division have been transferred from the older facility in North Bay.
