A winter diamond drilling program will be considered by Sunmist Energy ’86 for the company`s Eric Lake gold property, following the evaluation of this summer’s exploration results. Located 50 miles inland from Eskimo Point, N.W.T., the Eric Lake property encompasses some 51,000 acres of land.
The drill program will test the main Eric Lake zone and several other targets delineated on the property. Gold was first discovered on the property by Selco in the 1960s. Drilling has outlined a shear zone striking for 700 ft and dipping to 700 ft. The zone remains open in all directions. Free gold is associated with numerous quartz veins and stringers.
Some of the better intersections include 20.5 ft grading 0.195 oz gold per ton, 20.4 ft assaying 0.23 oz and an 8.5-ft section which graded over one oz. A silver showing is also being explored six miles east of the Eric Lake area. Surface sampling has assayed up to 12 oz silver per ton from narrow widths, Sunmist says.
