The reserves minable by open-pit methods at the Lisbon Valley copper project in Utah have increased to 42.6 million tons grading 0.43% copper. The overall stripping ratio is about 2.2-to-1.
Summo Minerals (VSE), which plans to develop a solvent
extraction-electrowinning operation, expects that a feasibility study, due by the end of July, will recommend a 34-million-lb.-per-year producer.
The Centennial is the largest of three pits, with 27.4 million tons grading 0.45% copper at a stripping ratio of 1.71-to-1. Included in the waste portion of the Centennial pit design are about 3.5 million tons of material which Summo believes could be added to the reserve by means of further drilling.
The two other deposits include the Sentinel, with 9.9 million tons grading 0.29% copper at a 0.93-to-1 stripping ratio, and the GTO, with 5.3 million tons grading 0.63% copper at a ratio of 6.95-to-1.
The Sentinel and Centennial, the distance between which is about 2,500 ft., are open along strike and could possibly be connected. The GTO also remains open along strike, to the south as well as downdip.
