Sub-Sahara explores Debarwa in Eritrea

Vancouver — Drilling by Australian-listed Sub-Sahara Resources on the Debarwa deposit in Eritrea has returned impressive gold and silver grades, in addition to copper in the Supergene zone.

Debarwa is part of the Asmara volcanogenic massive-sulphide project, which is 150 km west of Nevsun Resources‘ (nsu-v) Bisha copper-gold project.

Highlights from drilling, starting from depths of 30-40 metres down-hole in the Debarwa Main supergene zone, are as follows:

— Hole 21 — 20.1 metres grading 15.3% copper, 9.69 grams gold and 123.86 grams silver per tonne;

— Hole 22 — 20 metres of 12.83% copper, 4.55 grams gold and 68.83 grams silver;

— Hole 23 — 10 metres of 25 grams gold and 372.01 grams silver, plus 17 metres of 12.33% copper grading 1.85 grams gold and 58.55 grams silver.

Also, the Main zone returned 18 metres grading 3.96% copper, 5.48% zinc, 1.37 grams gold and 35.14 grams silver per tonne in hole 14.

In 1999, Phelps Dodge (PD-N) calculated a resource from the supergene and primary zones. An indicated resource of 1.65 million tonnes grading 5.15% copper and 1.4 grams gold was estimated for the gossan, supergene and primary zones combined; the figures were based on cutoff grades of 1 gram gold per tonne, 0.5% copper-equivalent and 2.5% copper-equivalent for each of the respective zones.

The current drilling program is expected to span 30,000 metres.

Sunridge Gold (SGC-V) can earn a 90% interest in the project, which is now held by Sub-Sahara and Africa Wide Resources.
