Student chapters of the Society of Economic Geologists at Laurentian University and the Universities of Toronto and Western Ontario have arranged a 2-day short course on exploration for platinum group metals for Nov. 3-4 in Sudbury.
The short course is made up of a day of talks on the geology of platinum group deposits, followed by a 1-day field trip to platinum group occurrences in the River Valley and East Bull Lake intrusions in the Sudbury region. Scheduled speakers include researchers from all three universities, from the Ontario and Manitoba governments, and from platinum producers and junior exploration companies.
The short course will be followed by a 1-day symposium honouring Anthony Naldrett of the University of Toronto, a leading researcher in the field of magmatic nickel, copper and platinum group deposits. Eighteen papers have been scheduled for the symposium.
The talks will be held at the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines’ Willet Green Miller Centre on the Laurentian University campus in Sudbury. More information can be obtained from Roxanne Mehes at Laurentian. Tel: (705) 673-6575. E-mail: rmehes@nickel.laurentian.ca. Web site: www.laurentian.ca/www/geology/index.html
