Drilling by Westfield Minerals and Goldbrae Developments on their Big Island Lake polymetallic property in Manitoba, has cut high grading precious and base metal values. The property is located five miles east of Flin Flon.
The best results came from hole 3 which cut 40.67 ft grading 0.17 oz gold per ton, 2.73 oz silver, 0.58% copper and 22.44% zinc. Within the same section was 29.19 ft grading 0.21 oz gold, 3.42 oz silver, 0.78% copper and 23.4% zinc, Westfield, the project operator, says. The highest grading gold values came from hole 1 which cut 1.6 ft grading 1.56 oz gold, 4.75 oz silver, 1.29% copper and 6.34% zinc.
The drill program is testing a surface geochemical anomaly which yielded widespread soil anomalies. Bedrock samples assayed between 0.05-0.1 oz gold. Follow-up trenching exposed a 20 ft-40 ft wide gossan zone which assayed 0.27 oz gold across 12 ft.
Several other gold anomalies, similar in strength to the discovery area, remain to be drill-tested on the property. As a result, the partners plan to expand their 1988 exploration effort.
Westfield has the right to earn a 70% interest in the property by spending $1.28 million by the end of 1992. At year-end, the company will have earned a 50% interest.
