A 2,225-ton bulk sample of graphitic material from the Mont- Laurier graphite deposit owned by Stratmin Inc. (ME), has been processed. The milling was completed by Asbury Graphite Mills, one of the largest graphite producers and marketers in North America. Asbury operates a mill at Notre- Dame-du-Laus, Que., 45 km south of the Mont-Laurier deposit.
The bulk sample yielded 159 tons of concentrate grading 92.49% carbon. The mined sample graded 7.42% carbon. An over-all recovery of 91.6% was achieved.
Stratmin says that definition drilling has outlined proven reserves of one million tonnes which are sufficient for an open pit mine life of seven years.
The company hopes to begin full scale commercial production by November. At that time, Stratmin will become the only producer of graphite in Canada.
