Stock promoter sentenced for life in 1987 shooting

A stock promoter was recently convicted of second-degree murder in the Toronto shooting of a millionaire stock broker at the 1987 convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The man, Timmins Andre Bissonnette, must serve a minimum 13 years before he will be considered for parole eligibility. (He would be in his late 60s by then.)

Described as a penniless stock promoter, Bissonnette shot Joseph Maurice Guy LaMarche in the lobby of the Royal York Hotel. Bissonnette said LaMarche owed him money but had refused to pay it back.
