St Andrew uncovers more gold at Stock mine

Junior St Andrew Goldfields (SAS-T) has discovered three gold prospects near its past-producing Stock gold mine near Matheson, Ont.

Each prospect was found while drilling induced-polarization (IP) anomalies east and west of the mine shaft. The first, situated 3.5 km to the east, was intersected by hole 98-9, which returned five separate 1.5-metre intervals averaging between 1.7 and 12.4 grams gold per tonne.

The second prospect is being touted as a continuous zone of mineralization 762 metres in length, though this may be a premature assumption given that only three widely spaced holes have been drilled. Hole 98-12, collared 1 km west of the shaft, returned the best results of the three: 2.4 metres (from 567 to 569.4 metres) grading 5.2 grams gold. At the other end of the zone, 1.5 metres (from 216 to 217.5 metres) graded 3.1 grams in hole 10.

Meanwhile, hole 11, which was collared halfway between, and slightly north of, hole 10 and 12, returned 1.3 metres (from 451.2 to 452.5 metres) of 3.1 grams gold.

Hole 14, collared 1 km southwest of the shaft, hit two separate intervals of 3 metres (from 360 to 363 metres) of 14.5 grams gold and 1 metre (from 374.9 to 375.9 metres) of 10.7 grams. A hole drilled in 1962 by Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines intersected two similar-sized intervals 152 metres vertically above the new intervals. The first averaged 23 grams gold over 1.52 metres (from 211.9 to 213.4 metres); the second, 3.94 grams over 3.05 metres (from 216.5 to 219.5 metres).

St Andrew says the western prospect is associated with an IP anomaly that partly overlaps a 396.2-metre-long airborne magnetic anomaly. Several other airborne anomalies on the property have yet to be tested.

In addition to regional work, the company has completed a 45.7-metre-long ramp into the Central zone, at the 300-metre level. Underground drilling will begin shortly in an attempt to follow up results from an earlier program that was stopped in 1994. Previous results include 16.1 grams gold over 14.3 metres and 20.6 grams over 9.1 metres.
