St Andrew starts program in Timmins camp

A $5-million exploration program by St Andrew Goldfields (SAS-T) is under way at the Taylor property in the Timmins gold camp of northern Ontario.

The company says 60% of the funds allocated for the 1998 program will be directed towards drilling known gold zones at the past-producing property.

The remainder will be used to explore new gold targets identified in previous geophysical programs.

A hole drilled late last year extended the eastern limit of the West Porphyry zone an additional 1,200 ft. east, to an area immediately south of the Taylor shaft. The hole intersected 4.9 ft. grading 0.39 oz. gold per ton.

St Andrew notes that several holes drilled late last year on the Taylor zone intercepted high-grade gold over favorable widths from depths of 350 to 2,000 ft. Some of the better results include: 3.3 ft. of 1.71 oz., 8.2 ft.

of 0.4 oz., and 5.2 ft. of 0.37 oz.

A 34-ft. cumulative intercept in hole 149 returned grades of 0.26 oz. over 18 ft., which includes 0.51 oz. over 8.1 ft. and, at a deeper level, 0.29 oz. over 16.3 ft. Hole 150 hit 0.77 oz. gold over 4.9 ft. in the Deep zone at the 2,000-ft. level.

St Andrew completed 171,324 ft. of drilling in 76 holes last year on the Taylor property, with the main target being the West Porphyry zone at 1,450 ft. below surface.

At last report, this zone contained a resource of 1.5 million tons grading 0.28 oz. gold per ton. Roscoe Postle Associates has been retained to calculate a new resource.
