A preliminary reserve estimate is expected soon from Spirit Lake Explorations (ME) for the company’s Edwards gold property, 37 miles northeast of Wawa, Ont. The claims are underlain by the same shear zone system that hosts the Magino and Kremzar gold mines, about five miles to the west. Headed by geologist John Hansuld, Spirit Lake has been drilling a number of gold targets on the property this winter including the porphyry and carbonate horizons of the Spirit zone.
Significant high-grade gold results have been reported from seven recently completed drill holes with the best intersection yielding an uncut assay of 1.06 oz. gold per ton across 15 ft. in hole 115.
Other highlights from the recently released batch of drill results are as follows: Hole Depth Width Gold No. (ft.) (ft.) (oz./ton) 113 214-216 2.0 3.27 114 438-442 4.0 4.46 115 302-317 15.0 1.06 116 185-189 4.0 0.32 274-278 4.0 3.14 117 606-607 1.0 3.05 118 580-583.5 3.5 1.06 119 245.5-260 5.5 1.13
The above assays are all uncut and come from drill holes spaced about 100 ft. apart along a distance of roughly 400 ft. Results from seven earlier holes included 10.6 ft. grading 11.57 oz. gold per ton in hole 101.
There are at least two gold- bearing vein systems on the Edwards property, where the company hopes to outline enough high-grade gold reserves to justify a small mining operation.
