Soviet scientists to visit Sudbury

A symposium featuring earth scientists from the Soviet nickel camp at Norilsk in Siberia and their counterparts at Sudbury, Ont., is being organized for Oct. 2-6, 1992, at the Ontario Geological Survey headquarters in the northern Ontario city.

Three days of talks (involving translators) and two days of field trips are planned. The first day will feature Soviet speakers, the second day will focus on Sudbury and the third day will consist of further talks on both Norilsk and Sudbury mainly by non-Sudbury workers.

Grants from Inco (TSE) and Falconbridge will cover part of the expense of bringing the eight Soviet earth scientists to Sudbury. The symposium will be sponsored by the Mineralogical Association of Canada and will be part of the move (to be completed in 1992) by the

Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines to Sudbury. For more information, write: A J. Naldrett, Department of Geology, University of Toronto, 22 Russell St., Toronto, Ont. M5S 3B1.
