Southwestern picks up the pace in Peru

Vancouver – Southwestern Resources (SWG-T) is commencing a prefeasibility study on its wholly-owned Accha-Yanque zinc-silver-lead properties in Peru.

The company’s Accha-Yanque project comprises a series of oxide zinc-silver-lead prospects aligned along a 30-km northeasterly stretch, about 120 km south of Cuzco.

They include the Accha and Yanque zones which have undergone drilling along with seven more that have been trenched. Southwestern’s planned work will take about eight months to complete.

Southwestern’s prefeasibility study will be designed to bring the Accha resource into line with NI-43-101 standards. Australian-based Pasminco Limited had completed a scoping study on the zone including a resource in accordance with Australia’s JORC code.

The company’s drill program at the Yanque prospect will focus on infill drilling to determine a resource. Three other prospects that have shown encouraging results from trenching are also slated for drilling.

Southwestern also plans an extensive surface sampling program to include trenching in an effort to define the extent of its recently discovered copper-gold prospect in the Tintaya-Bambas copper-gold belt of southern Peru.

The new Milenio porphyry copper-gold mineralization, which is exposed in outcrops within a 1,500 by 1,000-metre area, is due north of the Potongo copper-gold camp. The company’s exploration concessions cover 3,900 hectares including the mineralization.

At Milenio, oxide copper occurs within a fine network of quartz-limonite stockwork associated with an altered syenite porphyry. Local disseminated chalcopyrite, bornite and chalcocite were noted.
