South Atlantic drills Nautanen target

Through a 38%-owned subsidiary, South Atlantic Resources (SCQ-V) has begun drill-testing the Nautanen target on the Solberget project in Sweden.

The project is 70 km north of the Arctic Circle and 15 km east of the town of Gallivare, in Norrbotten province.

South Atlantic is testing two parallel zones associated with gold and copper mineralization. The zones were identified by mapping, sampling and geophysical surveys.

The first phase of work is expected to consist of at least 10 holes, each of which will be drilled to depths of 150 metres for a total of 1,500 metres.

Recently, the company carried out trenching over parts of the Maria and Max anomalies. The best result from the Maria zone was 16 metres grading 0.62 gram gold per tonne and 1.19% copper. The best result from the Max zone was 6 metres of 0.59 gram gold and 0.81% copper.

The central part of the Max zone was mined by open-pit and underground methods at the turn of the century, producing an estimated 180,000 tonnes of high-grade copper ore. The Swedish Geological Survey also tested the Max zone, outlining a resource of 643,000 tonnes grading 1.3 grams gold and 2.36% copper. A lower-grade zone also was tested, resulting in a resource estimate of 2.3 million tonnes grading 0.3 gram gold and 0.34% copper.

South Atlantic’s subsidiary is re-evaluating the results of past work to see if potential exists for a bulk-tonnage, open-pit mine with grades in the range of 0.4 gram gold and 0.4% copper.
