A U.S. grand jury is investigating the possible manipulation of shares of Solv-Ex following a ten-fold increase in price during the past year.
The probe follows an earlier investigation into the company by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which referred the case to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In recent months, Solv-Ex has attempted to raise funds for an oil-extraction demonstration plant near Fort McMurray, Alta.
The company says its technology will also allow it to extract alumina and other commodities from the tar sands.
