Reconnaissance drilling, performed by the Saskatchewan Mining Development Corp. (SMDC), has resulted in a gold discovery on the Oven Lake property north of La Ronge, Sask. Other partners in the project include Goldsil Resources (25%) and Golden Rule Resources (20%). SMDC holds a 55% stake in the claims.
Hole 6 intersected a stockwork of pyritic quartz veins near the contact with the Corner Lake intrusive. The best results came from a 13.5-m (44.2 ft) section grading 0.229 oz gold per ton. Included within this section was 8 m ( 26.2 ft) grading 0.313 oz.
SMDC notes that the results are deemed significant as they are from the faulted contact of a felsic intrusive — a common locale for gold mineralization in the area. Follow-up drilling is planned to start in June.
