Cementation Skanska, part of the Stockholm-based Skanska group of companies, has doubled the size of its Canadian business by acquiring Aurora Quarrying, a mining contractor based north of Toronto.
Established in 1972, Aurora has specialized in shaft-sinking, contract mining and underground work.
Meanwhile, Cementation Skanska reports that its Sudbury operations recently completed 1,000 workdays without a lost time or medical aid injury. During this period, the Sudbury division carried out various underground projects for local mines.
Operating in more than 60 countries, the Skanska group of companies generated about US$16 billion in revenue in 2001.
