Silver Standard hits new zone at Pitarrilla

Vancouver — Drilling by Silver Standard Resources (SSO-T) has enhanced the potential of the Pitarrilla project in Mexico’s Durango state.

A fifth pocket of silver mineralization, dubbed the South Ridge zone, was discovered in the ongoing program, which also confirmed the continuity of the Breccia Ridge zone. The project hosts three other drill-defined zones: Cordon Colorado, Pena Dyke, and Javelina Creek.

Two of these, Cordon Colorado and Pena Dyke, have been subjected to 129 reverse-circulation holes, which collectively outlined a silver resource of 16.5 million tonnes grading 113.5 grams per tonne, as well as an inferred resource of 4.8 million tonnes grading 85.1 grams silver.

The new South Ridge zone was discovered after chip sampling returned anomalous values about 600 metres southeast of the Breccia Ridge zone. The first drill hole to cut the new South Ridge zone returned a 43-metre intersection averaging 266.5 grams silver per tonne, including a 9-metre section of 751.9 grams silver. This hole intersected the oxidized silver mineralization starting from surface.

Drilling also returned encouraging results from the Breccia Ridge zone, including 88.8 metres averaging 58.3 grams silver and 0.5% zinc, and 74.7 metres of 109.4 grams silver and 1.48% zinc. Another hole at Breccia Ridge returned 52.4 metres averaging 98.4 grams silver and 0.6% zinc.

Two rigs continue to test the Pitarrilla property. The Breccia Ridge and South Ridge zones are believed to lie about 300 metres apart, and more RC and diamond drill holes are planned to test the continuity of mineralization between them. The southeastern extension of the South Ridge mineralization will also be tested.

Silver Standard is advancing the project with engineering studies and metallurgical testwork.

The property is 150 km north of Durango City.
